Natural-Looking, Long-Lasting Tooth Replacement
If you’re missing one or more teeth, dental implants are the most advanced, durable, and natural-looking solution available. At our Queen Creek dental office, Dr. Isaac Urling uses implants to restore smiles with results that look, feel, and function like real teeth.
Unlike partials or dentures without implants, single or all-on-x dental implants won’t slip or shift—and they don’t rely on neighboring teeth for support. They also help protect your jawbone health for long-term function and facial aesthetics.
What Are Dental Implants?
A single dental implant is designed to replace the full structure of a missing tooth—from root to crown. It consists of three components:
- Titanium post – Surgically placed into the jawbone to act as an artificial tooth root
- Abutment – Connects the titanium post to the crown
- Crown – A custom-made ceramic tooth that blends seamlessly with your natural smile
This structure closely mimics a natural tooth, offering superior strength, aesthetics, and stability.
All-On-X and Overdentures
All-on-X and overdentures are two great options for replacing multiple missing teeth using dental implants—but they work a little differently.
- All-on-X is a permanent solution. A full set of teeth is attached to 4–6 dental implants placed in your jaw. You can’t remove it, and it feels the most like natural teeth.
- Overdentures are removable. They “snap on” to implants using small attachments, so you can take them out to clean. They’re more secure than regular dentures but not fixed in place like All-on-X.
Both options are supported by implants and give you better comfort, function, and confidence than traditional dentures.
Dental Implants vs. Bridges
While dental bridges are commonly used to replace a single missing tooth, they require modifying healthy adjacent teeth to anchor the restoration. Dr. Urling often recommends dental implants as a more conservative alternative—especially when neighboring teeth are healthy and intact.
With implants, no surrounding teeth are affected, and the result is more natural and longer lasting.
Protecting Your Jawbone and Facial Structure
One of the most significant benefits of dental implants is their ability to preserve jawbone density. When a tooth is lost, the bone that once supported it begins to shrink—a process called facial collapse. Dental implants prevent this by stimulating the jawbone just like natural tooth roots, helping to:
- Maintain your facial shape
- Prevent premature aging
- Support long-term oral health
What to Expect: Your Dental Implant Journey
1. Consultation
It all starts with a conversation. Dr. Urling will assess your oral health, review your medical history, and take advanced digital imaging to create a custom treatment plan.
2. Surgical Placement
Dr. Urling performs all implant placements in-house. Dr. Urling has extensive continuing education in implant placement, bone grafting and tooth removal. This allows him to manage your case through the entire process of the surgery all the way to the final restoration and manage each part of the process to ensure a optimal outcome. Dr. Urling also has anesthesia providers that will sedate you in the office so you never have to leave the comfort and familiarity of Urling Dental. For complex medically compromised cases, he partners with trusted periodontists or oral surgeons to ensure safe outcomes.
3. Healing & Integration
Your jawbone will naturally bond with the implant in a process called osseointegration, which usually takes 3 to 6 months. During this time, you’ll have follow-up visits to ensure proper healing and adjust temporary prosthetics.
4. Final Restoration
Once healed, a custom crown, hybrid or over denture is created to match your natural teeth. Dr. Urling works with a top dental lab to ensure your smile looks beautiful and feels completely natural.
How to Care for Dental Implants
Dental implants are easy to maintain with normal brushing and flossing—just like your natural teeth. Unlike bridges, which often require special tools like floss threaders, implants make daily hygiene simpler and more effective.
Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?
Most healthy adults who are missing teeth are excellent candidates for dental implants. Even if you’ve experienced bone loss, Dr. Urling can evaluate whether bone grafting is needed to support your implant placement. Dr. Urling has extensive training in this area.
Conditions that may impact candidacy include:
- Uncontrolled diabetes
- Active periodontal disease
- Smoking (which may affect healing)
- Certain medical conditions or treatments
Dr. Urling will walk you through every step of the evaluation and treatment process, ensuring the best possible outcome for your health and smile.
